When you buy or build a home you should be thinking long-term and not just short-term. Homes should be created to be lived in for a lifetime so we’ve come up with a few things we think you should consider when designing your forever home.

Remember one day you will be old

It’s an unfortunate yet inevitable part of life. One day we will grow old and our mobility will decrease. That spiral staircase you’re thinking of probably won’t be such a great idea should you be trying to navigate it at 70 years old. Universal Design takes into account accessible design (will what we’re designing be able to be changed and adapted later for easier access) and ergonomic design (will what we’re designing allow all occupants of the house to interact effectively and safely).  A Universal Design means you’ll be able to live in your house until you’re old and gray.

Easy on the eye

Lifespan designs create spaces that can be used by everyone no matter their age or mobility. They are also appealing to the eye so that you won’t need eyesores like wheelchair ramps and stairlifts. No one wants that!

Non-discriminatory design

Shout out to all those left-handers out there! Universal Designing accommodates for you and your right-handed partner/family member/housemate. It also takes into account people of different heights, weights, those who move at different paces, in different ways and just created a neutral environment that everyone can use! A good example is our shower design – wide, easily accessible, no step, no lip, and good tap, soap dish, and valve height.

Universal designing is just thinking about everyone

We design homes that suit all of the inhabitants to ensure that the minimum amount of effort is required to live there. No one wants to live in a place that is just exhausting to use and move about in. We’re all about addressing accessibility and being adaptable in house design and planning.

Building and designing a home is no easy task. But we believe that when you do take the leap you want to create a place that is yours forever and can be yours forever. Think about this as you plan and design your next home.
