Create a Good First Impression
The first place to consider remodeling when you are looking to sell is the entryway. When showing your house, a lot of opinions have already been formed in just the first few minutes of the tour. Ensuring you have a welcoming entryway is essential. Placing a small table with bright flowers, or a small bench with some colorful pillows in the foyer can provide an eye-catching and appealing start for the prospective buyer.
Upgrade Smart
At this point in your process, a huge makeover probably won’t pay off. Considering keeping upgrades small, but purposeful. A fresh coat of paint, clean grout, and new cabinet pulls can all provide a clean, polished look, without breaking the bank. These types of remodeling are also quick, which is important when you could be asked to show your house at any time.
Remodel to De-personalize
New buyers are looking at your house as their next home. Removing your personal items will help them visualize themselves in the space. Family photos, memorabilia, and heirlooms should be stored away during the listing period. Take down at least half of your personal items off the walls. Your favorite sports team, might not be their favorite. Consider storing those items as well.
Think like a Home Stager, or Hire One
Walk around your house with fresh eyes. Think critically about how each piece of furniture is arranged, if each decoration compliments the flow of the room. Make sure to get rid of the clutter, or have a place it can be hidden during a showing. For example, children’s toys can be a lot of clutter, have a place they can be stored out of view. If you can’t invest the time, think about hiring a home stager to help you arrange your furniture and decorations in a way that complements your floorplan and makes the home flow and show well.
