A well-designed space is an art itself. When a space is carefully curated, it will look like your house has been given enough thought and planning. It will also make your house appealing and interesting to your visitors.

This is why others that have money to spend, hire a professional interior designer to design their house. This is a good idea, but not all of us have a budget to spend. Many would opt to go for doing it yourself kind of interior designing. This is by looking for a peg on the internet and doing it on your house.

But before you start your project, make sure to take note of these common interior design mistakes so you can avoid them.

Scale

You should know what sizes are appropriate for your room or space. If the space is small but filled with large furniture, it can make the room smaller and stuffy. It can also interrupt the flow of the space generally. Similarly, if you put too many small things in a space, it can make the space look cluttered and unorganized. Before replicating any pegs, make sure that your peg can fit in your space.

Accessories

Here’s an unpopular opinion: You don’t have to keep all your heirlooms and sentimental accessories. Sometimes, it is better to let go of some stuff, especially if you don’t like it, but it stays because of sentimental reasons. You don’t have to throw them, but you don’t have to keep them in one place either. You can scatter them around the house, and find a place where they fit.

Colors

Always consider the colors that you will put in a space. You should check the best color combination if you want to paint and accessorize the room. And avoid colors that are contrasting to each other. Sunlight should be considered as well when choosing colors.

Too much replication of what you see on the internet

These designs that are available on the internet are beautiful. No one can deny that. But take note that these designs are for different people. Or they are created for inspiration. The interior design of your home should incorporate your personality. Get creative and put your personality in your peg to make it personalized.

No Focal Focus

A focal focus is the design anchor of your room. When a space doesn’t have a focal focus, there would be no corner of the room to catch the interest of the visitor. When a room has a focal point, it helps to make the room look more put together.

Always remember that your room should be designed according to who you are and what should be its function to you. It is not easy to remodel, so make sure to carefully plan your project. Make sure that all aspects are taken care of before executing your project to avoid wasting money. After all, the reason you do a do-it-yourself project is to save money.
